Exploring the villages

Right in the south of Germany where Tyrol and Vorarlberg are next-door neighbours and Bavaria is just a little bit more traditional, five villages have come together under the “Hoerner”, their local mountains, in Allgaeu: Balderschwang, Bolsterlang, Fischen, Obermaiselstein and Ofterschwang. Find out more about the villages and their different areas, about the people and their lifestyle.

Fischen i. Allgaeu

Fischen is like a holiday resort straight out of a picture book with its seven pretty hamlets. It is picturesquely situated in the Illertal valley with a magnificent view over the majestic Allgaeu mountains and the Hörnerkette mountain range.

Allgaeu mountain holidays rich in quality experiences. That’s nature holidays in Ofterschwang with its ten pretty hamlets, which are situated on a sunny, natural plateau above the Illertal valley, like villages straight from the pages of a picture book.

The climatic health resort of Obermaiselstein stands for family-friendly holidays up close to nature. The sound of cow bells accompanies every hike at the base of the Hoernerkette mountain range surrounded by the fascinating landscape of the Nagelfluhkette nature park.

The picturesque little village of Bolsterlang promises an idyllic holiday in the mountains. You can still experience everyday rural life with typical Allgaeu hospitality up close here. Archery, hiking, relaxing, enjoying the outdoors and regional specialities ensure an ideal holiday for the whole family.

Up where the road reaches its highest point, at the European watershed where it’s decided whether a drop of water ends its journey in the North Sea or Black Sea, you’re standing on the Riedberg Pass; at 1,400 metres and at the start of the Balderschwang high valley.
